Kap Krawler is a game made by Matakey (“we”). This page explains, in plain English, what the Kap Krawler iPhone app and this website do with information. The short version: we don’t run servers for the game, we don’t have accounts, and the app does not send anything to us.
The short version
- No sign-up, no accounts, no passwords.
- No location tracking, no ads, no analytics and no crash-reporting tools inside the app.
- The app does not connect to the internet during play. Phones talk to each other directly over Bluetooth.
- Your game is saved on your own phone.
- What other players can see is your character: the name you forge, class, level, HP and energy, plus the game moves you make with them.
What the app stores on your phone
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Your character (class and the name you choose) | So you can keep playing the same hero. |
| Your game ledger: encounters, trades, quests, skirmish results, XP, HP and energy, with times | This is the game save. It lives in a database on your phone. |
| A game identity key (a random cryptographic key pair) | Lets other phones check that your moves really came from you. It isn’t linked to your real name, phone number or Apple ID. |
| Small settings: that you passed the age check, and which Hang Out you were in tonight | So you aren’t asked twice and can rejoin if your phone dies. |
| Game content files | The quests and items the game needs, stored offline. |
None of this is sent to us. We have no copy of it.
What is shared with other players, over Bluetooth
Kap Krawler is a game about meeting the people around you, so some information has to travel between phones:
- A small Bluetooth signal that your phone sends out while the app is open. It contains a short random player number, your class, level and HP, and a code that tells other phones when your game has changed. Like any Bluetooth signal, it can be picked up by any Bluetooth device nearby, not just other players.
- Your character card and game records, exchanged directly with nearby Kap Krawler players: the name you forged, class, level, HP, energy, your game identity key, and the signed records of what you did together (for example “these two signed a trade”).
- Game records are passed along between players in the same game, so someone you never met directly may end up with a copy of a record you made.
Please don’t use your full real name or anything sensitive as your character name.
Camera
The app asks for camera access only to scan a QR code when you join a game. The camera image isn’t saved or sent anywhere. You can say no. You just won’t be able to scan join codes.
Bluetooth
Bluetooth is how the game works: it finds nearby players and swaps game records with them. The app uses it only while you are playing.
Apple, TestFlight and the App Store
If you install Kap Krawler through TestFlight or the App Store, Apple handles the download. Depending on your device settings, Apple may share crash reports and basic app usage numbers with developers. TestFlight also shows us the email address you were invited with and any feedback or screenshots you choose to send. That is covered by Apple’s privacy policy.
This website
kapkrawler.com does not use cookies, analytics, ads or tracking scripts. Like any website, the server that hosts it may keep standard access logs (IP address, browser type, page requested) for security and troubleshooting.
When beta signups open, we’ll name here the service that receives your email. We’ll use your email only to send beta invites and launch news. You can unsubscribe at any time. We will never sell it.
Age
Kap Krawler is for adults of legal drinking age (21+ in the US). It is not meant for children, and we don’t knowingly collect information from them. The game never asks you to drink.
Deleting your data
- Deleting the app deletes your character and game save from your phone. iOS may keep the small game identity key in the phone’s Keychain after the app is deleted. Erasing the phone removes it.
- Copies of game records you already shared stay on other players’ phones until they delete the app. We can’t reach them, because we never had them.
Changes
If the app starts doing anything new with data, such as an online feature, we’ll update this page and the date at the top before that version ships.
